Wings of Horus give the ancient Egyptian setting a gothic feel with the pharaonic heads worn back to skulls and a black and white painted look.
The wings from the title overlook the reels as beside the reels two haunting mummies wield living snakes as sceptres. On the reels, the symbols are classic Egyptian images designed to look like gold and jewels set into black rocks that evoke dark magic and Lovecraftian realms.
This slot will appeal to players who want an ancient Egyptian setting with a dark edge.
The imagery of Wings of Horus is striking. The reels are overseen by horrifying mummies done in a style that imitates oil painting. The mummies and the wings are animated meaning the game is always in motion.
The animations are a key selling point with the beautiful and spooky artwork given movement beside the reels.
The soundtrack is a little out of character with modern music and slot sounds clashing with the dark Egyptian artwork.
Wings of Horus is played on a large field with five reels of six symbols each. Because of the game’s any way wins format, the deep reels make for 7,776 ways to win.
With a variety of game features and bonuses, the gameplay of Wings of Horus is always exciting and varied.
If the letter symbols spell out "Horus" at any point, the player receives 500x their bet.
The maximum win on any given round is capped at 15,000x the player’s bet.
In Wings Of Horus, the Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols except for the Orb or Bonus symbols. The Wild symbol does not appear on the reels under normal circumstances. Instead, their appearance is tied to the Red Orb and Blue Orb features.
The Blue Orb symbol is the orb of the moon. When it lands, a feature triggers that replaces all instances of a random symbol on the reel with instances of one kind of higher-paying symbol or a Wild symbol.
The Red Orb symbol is the orb of the sun. When it does the same thing as the Blue Orb, except that it replaces all instances of two random symbols. The symbols are all replaced by a single matching symbol of a higher value or a Wild symbol.
Three Bonus symbols anywhere on the reels will trigger a Free Spin Bonus with 10 free spins. Additional Bonus symbols add four extra free spins each.
During the free spins, a pair of progress bars are added to the reels. The golden bar counts how many times the player hits a winning combination. Every time this golden bar fills up, the purple counter increases by one.
On the final spin, the purple bar is activated and for each count on the purple bar a Red Orb or Blue Orb is added to the reels (up to a maximum of five).
The return to player (RTP) of Wings of Horus is maxed out at 96.33% but is highly variable and can be set as low as 89% by the operators. Always check the RTP on the online casino that you use to make sure that the RTP is at least 96%.
Our yardstick for average is roughly 96%, and we do not recommend playing if a slot drops below this.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.10 up to a maximum of $/£/€100 per spin.
Wings of Horus is a medium-high volatility slot, making it a moderately good match for our preferred slot machine strategies. Our slot strategies target the highest possible volatility, so a slightly higher volatility would be preferable.
Wings Of Horus is a really good-looking slot. The artwork is both very good and very unique. This is assisted by a lot of animation that keeps things visually interesting and supports the overall atmosphere of the slot.
The varied gameplay and bonuses are a lot of fun and all fit the spooky ancient Egyptian theme really well.
The slot also has decent (though not great) volatility and an RTP that is variable. At the top end of its RTP range, we can recommend Wings of Horus. However, at the bottom end, we would suggest you go dig up a different tomb.
