Divine Wine is an unusual entry in the Ancient Greek mythology genre. Where most slots in this area focus on the big hitters of the pantheon (especially Zeus), Divine Wine focuses on Dionysius, the god of wine.
In this slot, we find him in a vineyard with beautiful views of the Greek countryside and the Mediterranean Sea.
On the reels, Dionysus appears as the highest value symbol, accompanied by a cornucopia full of grapes, a goblet and amphora, his trusty lyre, and a maenad (one of Bacchus’s followers, usually beautiful women). The rest of the symbols are typical Ace to Nine symbols.
This slot will appeal to fans of wine, viticulture, and Greek mythology.
Divine Wine has a lovely visual style in which the scenes are depicted in a realistic manner but with exaggerated characters and vivid colors. This is a contrast from the clouds and marble columns of many Greek myth slots.
Divine Wine also drinks deeply of its Greek influence in the soundtrack where the music reconstructs an imagined ancient Greek orchestra complete with a chorus singing a chant.
The characters all have animations that trigger when they are part of a win and Bacchus stands beside the reels smiling and winking at the players as they play.
The visual elements are definitely a key draw of this slot and as fine as one of Bacchus’s wines.
Divine Wine five-reel slot. It has three rows of symbols on each reel and 25 win lines.
The gameplay can be a little repetitive thanks to the high volatility of the game. The maximum win of Divine Wine is a massive 10,000x the player’s bet, allowing players to potentially win huge jackpots.
However, to keep things from getting too boring, a Wild Feature can trigger at random. This feature adds Yellow Wilds to random places on the reel and they are locked in place until the feature ends.
The reels respin and if another Yellow Wild lands on the reels, then the game calculates any wins and the player gets another respin. If no new Yellow Wilds land, then the wins are still calculated, but the feature ends.
Wild symbols come in two kinds. Purple Wilds are standard Wilds, Yellow Wilds are part of the Wild Feature (see the Gameplay section for more information on this feature).
All Wilds substitute for all symbols except for Bonus symbols.
Bonus symbols have a picture of a barrel on them, as well as a number of free spins that is between 3 and 20. If the player lands three or more Bonus symbols on one spin, then the player gets a Free Spin Bonus.
The number of free spins on all the Bonus symbols is added up, and the player gets a number of free spins equal to the total.
During the Free Spin Bonus, the player can earn more spins and multipliers. The Wild Feature can trigger during Free Spins too. So, there are a ton of ways to win big.
The return to player of Divine Wine is 95.49%, which is well below our yardstick for average of roughly 96%.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.25, this is pretty high and excluded some of the penny-slot players. At the other end, the slot caters well to high-rollers with a maximum bet per spin of $/£/€250.
Divine Wine only has medium volatility, making this slot useless for combining with our preferred slot machine strategies. We prefer a high volatility slot for this purpose.
Divine Wine is almost a great slot. The gameplay is cool, with a fun feature that punctuates play nicely. The bonus game is a classic Free Spin Bonus but with a nice twist in the way the number of spins is determined. The animations are excellent and the artwork is expressive and relevant to the interesting and unusual take on a classic and Classical theme.
Unfortunately, the whole game is let down by the numbers under the toga. The RTP is just too low at 95.49%. This alone would be enough to kill a recommendation, but it also has relatively weak volatility that lands in the medium range.
It is a shame, but unless RTP doesn’t matter much to you, this game doesn’t get a recommendation.
